Bucks Celebrates Black History Month
with Several Free Events

Visit with “Mrs. Abraham Lincoln,” learn about the “Freedom Quilt,”
and hear about the legacy of the Negro Baseball Leagues

February 8, 2010 — Bucks County Community College celebrates Black History Month with several events that are free and open to the public.

Jo Ann Tufo portrays “The Eternal Wife: Mrs. Abraham Lincoln,” as she reminisces about her life with her husband of 22 years, and the bloody Civil War that tore country and family apart. The performance takes place at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, in the Gallagher Room on the Newtown campus, located at 275 Swamp Rd, Newtown.

Negro Baseball League TeamMeanwhile, Trish Chambers presents the history, legends and personal stories that make up the rich heritage connected to the Underground Railroad in “Freedom Quilt.” Chambers performs at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, at the Lower Bucks Campus at 1304 Veterans Highway, Bristol, and again at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, in the Fireside Lounge on the Newtown Campus.

Finally, author and filmmaker Byron Motley presents a lecture on “The Negro Baseball Leagues: An American Legacy.” Motley, the son of a Negro League umpire, discusses history, memories, and personal stories of the leagues as he chronicled in his documentary of the same title. Motley’s presentation is at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, February 18, in the Fireside Lounge, and again at 7 p.m. that night in the Gateway Auditorium.
