The Borough of Doylestown has announced the creation of a new landmark in the center of town. An artist is being sought to paint a mural for Printers Alley, between State and Court Streets, as part of the Borough's revitalization program. The mural will focus on the history of Bucks County, with emphasis on the role of the Doylestown community in that history. "We hope this landmark will truly be part of the community," says Borough Manager John Davis. "We want artists from the area to apply to create a lasting mural of the county for generations to come," he continued.
Interested artists are encouraged to contact the Borough to request an application by calling 215-345-4140 or emailing jdavis@doylestownborough.net. The deadline for submissions is April 26. The application asks for information regarding the artist or group of artists, a preliminary sketch of the proposed mural, and a short explanation of what the mural is about. The applications will be reviewed by the Doylestown Revitalization Board and a committee of artists to decide who will add the newest landmark to historic Doylestown. The planners hope that the painting could begin as early as this summer, but, says Davis, "we won't be rushed . . . the mural is something we have to live with for the rest of our lives."
