During the May celebration of National Tourism Month, take advantage of the Bucks County Conference & Visitors Bureau's "Be A Tourist In Your Own County" promotion by visiting some of the museums and historic sites for which our county is known. Here is one possible itinerary you can use to craft an educational and fun outing for you and your family.
Visit Historic Fallsington, a 300-year-old pre-Revolutionary village where William Penn worshipped, and experience an enduring Quaker community rich with uniquely American original architecture. Move on to Fonthill, the former home of Renaissance man Henry C. Mercer. This 44-room castle, built entirely of hand-mixed concrete, features original decorative tiles and over 900 prints and other objects gathered throughout his world travels. On the same grounds, stop by the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works, a unique architectural feat that operates today as a living history museum, making reproductions of Mercer's original line of tiles. The towering castle of Mercer Museum, open daily for tours, houses Mercer's amazing collection of furnishings, folk art and implements of early America. For a touch of culture, visit the Pearl S. Buck House, a fitting tribute to Pulitzer prize-winning author and humanitarian Pearl S. Buck, showcasing a rich collection of Pennsylvania country furniture alongside Chinese decorative screens and works by celebrated artists. Then head for Byers' Choice, home of America's beloved handcrafted Caroler figurines, to marvel at the Victorian street scene complete with cobblestones, gas lanterns and elegantly decorated storefronts of the period.
All of these destinations offer coupons in this year's Bucks County Passport to Savings, making Bucks County's wealth of history, the arts and culture more accessible than ever.
